Scale 2, JPEG 0.92, white paper

PDF to JPG loads PDF.js 3.11.174, takes each page viewport at scale: 2, and paints it with alpha: false and a white background. toBlob uses image/jpeg at 0.92. The filename is the PDF name plus -page-N.jpg. Sideways pages export sideways. Rotate the PDF first if the slide needs upright text. A broken image XObject throws on that page and the status stops there. Reprint that one page from a reader, then convert the short file. Do not reprint the healthy pages.

Slides, not archives

A deck template that refuses PDFs

Photo pages with a short caption usually survive 0.92 at fullscreen. A 9-point table with hairline rules picks up blocks. Send that page through PDF to PNG instead.

A social crop

The export is the whole page. Crop to the diagram afterwards. Letterboxing a full page inside a square post makes the figure tiny.

A highlighted paragraph

Pale yellow turns blotchy in JPEG. Use PNG for flat color. Use JPG for photographs.

Proof versus screen

Write “screen still, not a print proof” if the image came from this path. Do not upscale it to satisfy a 300 DPI checkbox. Go back to the PDF.

Convert the short file

  1. Split to the pages you will place, unless the PDF is already short.
  2. Drop it. Start the render. Accept one download per page.
  3. Place the JPG. Read it at fullscreen, at arm’s length.
  4. Keep the PDF next to the deck with the same date. The caption in the image is not selectable, so paste the figure into speaker notes from the PDF.

PDF to JPG for presentations is the leave-behind that only needed three pages as images.

Pixels, not pages, are the cost

Scale 2 on a US Letter page is roughly twelve hundred pixels across and sixteen hundred down. That is a reasonable slide image and a poor poster. A tabloid or a map sheet at the same scale is a much larger bitmap, and the loop still allocates one canvas per page. Split the sheet out if the browser kills the tab halfway through a mixed file. You will not get a zip, and you will not get a second chance at the pages that already downloaded with a half-written name. Rename after all the blobs have landed.

JPEG 0.92 is fixed. There is no slider for a diagram that broke up. Export that page with PDF to PNG. Leave photographs on this path. A white background is also fixed, so a logo that was meant to sit on a colored slide will show a white card. Crop it or export the logo from the design file.

The PDF is not uploaded. PDF.js is loaded as a script over HTTPS. The document bytes stay in the tab. A locked file still has to open locally before any page can be painted. There is no quality slider and no page picker, so a long file should be split before you start the loop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I search the JPG?

No. The page is paint. Scale is 2, JPEG quality is 0.92, and the canvas is created with alpha off and a white background. Keep the PDF if you still need the words.

Why do I get one file per page?

The loop walks 1..numPages and downloads each blob. There is no page filter and no zip. Split the page out first if you only need one.

Will a transparent logo stay transparent?

No. The background is white. A logo that expected a clear surround comes out as a white rectangle. Export the logo from the design file instead.

How big is a letter page?

Scale 2 is on the order of 1200 by 1600 pixels. Enough for a 1080p slide. Not a poster. There is no DPI dropdown.

The tab dies on a long file.

Each page allocates a canvas at scale 2. Split to the pages you need. A 180-page render is a fan, not a requirement. Locked PDFs fail until they open.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Rendering stays in the browser. HTTPS loads PDF.js from the CDN as a script. The document bytes are not that request, and they are not stored.
